Blood for the Gods…

This month the Barrick Museum is hosting a blood drive put together by UNLV‘s Alpha Epsilon Delta and United Blood Services.  The blood drive is back to back March 23rd and 24th from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM in the museum gallery.

Museum College Night Open House

Viva Frida! receptionThe Marjorie Barrick Museum will be hosting an open house on March 8, 2011 from 4-7 PM. The event is free and open to UNLV students, staff/faculty, and the Las Vegas community. Learn about our current exhibits and events, educational programming and all other resources we have available. If you would like to work with us in planning exhibits, lectures or other events please join us on March 8th.
For faculty, if you have an exhibit or programming idea that would support your classes do not miss this opportunity to come and talk to us in person. If you’re unable to join us March 8th send your ideas to barrick.museum@unlv.edu . We can’t wait to work with you all!

Item of the Week: Tupilak Figurines Last week, we brought out a collection of Inuit Tupilak figurines as part of our new permanent exhibition. Made of whale tooth, walrus ivory, and other materials, these figurines are carved by the Inuit of Eastern Greenland as souvenirs and art objects, recalling a much older tradition of magic and witchcraft.
